Sarah Sleet’s proactive style in bringing together industry and celiac consumer needs has been acknowledged as invigorating. Sleet’s supreme knowledge of celiac needs thanks to her direct connection with consumers has sparked healthy discourse among manufacturers. Specifically, Sleet has kept close to the European Union’s Food Information for Consumers (FIC) regulations to ensure consumer needs are satisfied within these.
Asked what her proudest moments of 2014 have been, she said:
“With the introduction of the new allergen labeling in 2014, I hope we have persuaded manufacturers and caterers that what is good news for their gluten-free customers, is also a great business opportunity for them. Gluten-free is the fastest growing category in the food sector and it’s just a short step from meeting the FIR regulations to labeling gluten-free. And I am so pleased that more businesses than ever before are taking up the challenge with over 130 businesses using our Crossed Grain symbol and nearly 2500 venues across the UK accredited by Coeliac UK, including restaurant chains, individual and public sector establishments.”
