Tomra Sorting Food unveiled the Tomra 5B reject sorter for vegetables at SIAL 2016 in Paris, (October 16-20).

The Tomra 5B has a belt speed rate of up to five meters per second and has smart surround view technology with a 360-degree inspection.

False rejection rates

Steve Raskin, sales director, Tomra, told BakeryandSnacks, the machine is the latest in its next generation of belt technology.

It comes with high resolution cameras and LEDs for improved light intensity for optimal product appearance. This can reduce false rejection rates and improve product quality by identifying each object, in turn including color, shape detection and foreign material.

Raskin claims the sorting machine’s ejector valves remove the defective products at a rate three times faster than previous valves, designed for wet and dry conditions.

Tomra Act user interface

The machine has an easy-to-use, intuitive user interface called Tomra Act. This has been designed to be user-oriented and generate on-screen performance feedback on production quality and safety,” he said.

The settings and data are application driven, providing processors with an easy way to set the machine delivering clear data on the sorting process.

The user interface is so effective it was recognized at the 2016 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) with a silver medal in the digital design category.”

Tomra 5B is able to sort a variety of vegetables including corn, carrots, peas, bell peppers, industrial spinach and processed lettuce.
