Tomato producer NatureSweet has launched snack packaging for its Cherriots bite-size tomatoes in snack packaging, with three pull-apart containers for on-the-go nibbling.

The product is designed to meet two growing consumer demands: an interest in healthful snacking, and portable convenience packs.

Healthful snacking

According to Michael Joergensen, marketing director for NatureSweet, the Cherriots snack pods are ideal for on-the-go noshing.

Studies show adults eat almost half of their food between meals,” he said. “Consumers are demanding healthier options to take with them to the office, school, or wherever they go.”

The company reports consumer response to the three-part packaging has been favorable. According to NatureSweet’s market survey, nine out of 10 consumers who bought the containers would repeat the purchase.

Tiny tomatoes

Each of the pods contains approximately a dozen Cherriots tomatoes. The packaging consists of a thermoformed tray, lidded with film; to separate, the consumer snaps off one of the three pods and totes it to the car, office, or other locale.

Cherriots, like other NatureSweet tomatoes, are grown from seeds in a greenhouse. The tomatoes are vine-ripened, reportedly producing a high degree of flavor and consistent product quality throughout the year.
