Campden BRI and the Active and Intelligent Packaging Industry Association (AIPIA) are holding a seminar on active and intelligent food packaging next month.

It will cover developments in modified atmosphere and vacuum packaging, condition monitoring and the trade-off between functionality, cost and security for temperature monitoring, printed electronics, microencapsulation technology and developments in materials such as graphene.

The groups said it will help attendees understand the rationale of using active and intelligent packaging, find out the latest developments, understand significance of future developments in nanotechnologies and materials and be aware of the barriers and challenges in commercial uptake.

“The food industry is constantly developing and refining new packaging techniques that actively control, monitor and respond to packaged products. Active and intelligent packaging has been gaining in popularity over the last few years,” said Campden BRI.

Speakers include Dr Sean Kelly of the Nanotechnology Industries Association, Simon Balderson from Sirane, Matthew Jackson of Multivac UK and Andrew Manly from AIPIA.

Price for members of Campden BRI and AIPIA is £295 + VAT and for non-members it is £395 + VAT for the event on 21 October at Campden BRI.
