Bosch Technology Group will be presenting an upgraded version of its Two-in-One biscuit packing system at Interpack 2017.

The German technology and service supplier’s single-lane system was first premiered at the Germany packaging trade show in 2014 and is already in use by several customers worldwide.

Now, the global manufacturer has upgraded its Two-In-One system to be even more flexible. According to the company, it is the first system to produce single, pile and slug packs on two independently operating lanes.

Dual-lane flexibility

Daniel Bossel, product manager at Bosch Packaging Technology described the system as a complete one-shop-solution, from product distribution to the closed carton.

The distribution station – the Sigpack DHRG - forms up to 400 rows of round, oval or square-shaped biscuits per minute that can be fed in a sorted or unsorted way.

Two lanes transport the biscuits flat to the flow wrapper Sigpack HMAD’s dual sealing station, which Bosch warrants will be undertaken with extremely gentle handling even at the high speeds it can attain.

For example, said the company, the heat sealing process reaches film speeds of up to 90 meters per minute, while the cold sealing process sees speeds of up 150 meters per minute.

Fast and flexible

The system can also handle fast and flexible format changes.

While the two lanes can package up to 2,400 biscuits per minute, manufacturers can also configure each lane to produce different packaging formats in varying batch sizes.

The Sigpack PMI infeed module is new to the company’s portfolio. As the link between flow wrapper and cartoner, it merges the flow of products from two into one lane. Each product can be controlled and positioned individually using linear motor technology.

No down time

Bossel explained the biscuit system’s components are seamlessly integrated into the HMI user interface and follow standardized processes. The two lanes can be cleaned and adjusted independently of one another, meaning that production does not need to be stopped at any time.

The company also said the system can be fitted with the Line Dashboard, which gives operators an overall view and status update of either individual machines or complete lines. Real-time notifications, such as error alerts, will enable operators to react quickly and initiate countermeasures, reducing machine downtime.

Interpack 2017 is being held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 4-10.
